The victim is about 30 years old and is being transported to Harborview Medical Center in serious condition, according to the Seattle Fire Department.

PoliceĀ  are trying to sort out the circumstances of a shooting in West Seattle Thursday evening that left a 26-year-old man hospitalized.

According to a statement by Seattle police, a West Seattle resident reported that someone was trying to break into his house in the 8800 block of Delridge Way Southwest. When officers arrived, they found a man who had been shot in the shoulder, police said. That man said he had fled his own home where he had been shot after struggling with a burglar, and was trying to find help.

The man was treated for his injury and taken to the hospital. Detectives are investigating a statement by the victim that he may have known his assailant, police said..
