A shootout between two parties in the Rainier Valley Tuesday left a teenage bystander with a gunshot wound, according to the Seattle Police Department.
Seattle Fire Department medics took an 18-year-old man who suffered a gunshot wound to Harborview Medical Center in stable condition, said spokeswoman Kristin Tinsley. His injuries are not life-threatening, police said.
The shooting occurred around 4 p.m. Tuesday near the Rainier Beach Community Center in the 8800 block of Rainier Avenue South, according to a statement from police. After speaking to witnesses, police believe a man on foot and people in a car got into an argument, which escalated into gunfire.
Police said the suspects fled the area, although officers found two cars they think were involved in the shooting. Detectives assigned to the department’s gang unit are investigating.
