Police are investigating a Wednesday night shooting that started with a report of a man slashing tires in Bothell and ended with the man’s death.

Officers were called to 228th Street Southeast and 20th Avenue Southeast, where they’d been told a man was slashing tires with a knife, said Julie Moore, a spokesperson for the Snohomish County Multiple Agency Response Team, which is investigating the shooting.

“The first responding Bothell officer made contact with the male subject, at which point the subject advanced towards the officer with a knife and the officer fired multiple shots at him,” Moore wrote in a statement about the shooting. “The officer then radioed that shots had been fired and requested aid. Other responding officers immediately began performing life-saving measures on the adult male subject.”

The man was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where he died, Moore said.

She said a knife was recovered from the scene.

The Bothell officer involved has been placed on administrative leave, as is standard when an officer shoots someone.

A few weeks ago, Bothell police Officer Jonathan Shoop, 32, was fatally shot after a traffic stop turned into a brief car chase.
