No reason to panic. That big crane towering over Pike Place Market doesn’t mean a giant tower is going to block one of the most iconic views in Seattle.

It’s there for the construction of the market expansion that started last summer. (You may remember these sketches of how the site right behind the Joe Desimone Bridge looked like before the groundbreaking.)

The new “Market Front” will add more food and retail space, underground parking and a new terrace overlooking Elliott Bay. I look forward to making some sketches there when it opens in 2017!
