Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn is asking residents to report missed trash and recycling pickups using Twitter as the city prepares  to impose big fines on Waste Management for days they do not collect waste during the week old strike by union drivers.

Waste Management could be fined up to $1.25 million a day for failing to fulfill their collection contract with the city.

“We expect Waste Management to fulfill their contract,” he said at a news conference Wednesday.

The company faces additional fines under contracts with other cities.

McGinn said 19 Seattle inspectors will be out Thursday morning to check if waste has been collected along pickup routes and asked the public to feed the city reports via Twitter by using the hash tag #theymissedme .

Waste Management has started hiring permanent replacement workers to complete routes.
