TACOMA, Wash. (AP) — Authorities say they have recovered a man’s body from a canal in Washington state.
The Tacoma News Tribune reported Thursday that the Kitsap County coroner has identified the man as 77-year-old Douglas William Gant of Tacoma.
The Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office says deputies started looking for Gant after a caller reported a rowboat drifting in Hood Canal near Seabeck, about 40 miles (64 kilometers) west of Seattle.
Authorities say a registration check showed Gant as the boat’s owner.
Gant’s family says he routinely used the rowboat to reach his sport utility boat moored offshore.
People on a sailboat later spotted his body in the water.
Authorities say an autopsy is scheduled for Monday to determine the cause of death.
