Swiftwater and dive crews on Wednesday evening recovered a body believed to be the fisherman who fell into the Puyallup River in late May.

The body hasn’t been formally identified yet, but information from the recovery scene suggests it is Lorenzo Perez, 46, according to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department.

Perez slipped into the Puyallup River in Sumner May 29 while fishing with his family. Rescue teams tried to find him using boats, helicopter and sonar, but suspended search efforts two days later.

A fisherman reported finding a body in the river in Puyallup, about a mile and a half downstream from where Perez fell.
