A man who was being assaulted by three other men early this morning fended off the attack by stabbing one of the assailants with a screwdriver, Seattle police said.

The victim was begging for cigarettes outside a business in the 6000 block of Airport Way South around midnight when he was attacked, police said. The men chased the victim south on Airport Way and eventually knocked him to the ground.

At that point, the victim stabbed one of the men with a screwdriver and was able to escape.

Police said the three assailants were highly intoxicated. They were located by police and one man, 24, was treated by Seattle Fire Department medics for a minor stab wound to his back. He was then taken to Harborview Medical Center. Two other men were arrested for investigation of assault.

Police did not find the victim.
