A series of raids today in the Seattle and San Francisco Bay areas resulted in the arrests of 20 people and the seizure of two dozen pounds of drugs, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
The raids result from a lengthy investigation into a drug-trafficking ring that stretched from San Francisco to Vancouver, B.C., U.S. Attorney Jenny Durkan said in a news release. The suspects allegedly brought the drugs from California to the Seattle area and distributed them in Western Washington or Canada, the news release said.
Seized during today’s raids were methamphetamine, cocaine, crack cocaine and $35,000 in cash. However, over the course of the investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration and Seattle Police Department, the seizures totaled more than $700,000 in cash, 11 kilos of cocaine, 40 pounds of methamphetamine and four firearms, according to the news release.
“It is noteworthy that this operation was made possible due to information obtained during a routine ‘buy-bust’ conducted by Seattle Police officers and detectives,” police Chief John Diaz said. “This is another example of how ordinary police work combined with law enforcement partnerships can yield exceptional results.”
