UPDATE, Saturday, 9:48 p.m. | The 9-year-old has been discharged from the hospital, a spokeswoman for Harborview Medical Center said Saturday night. The 10-year-old remains in critical condition at the hospital’s intensive care unit.

UPDATE, Saturday, 5:12 p.m. | Harborview Medical Center said Saturday afternoon that the 10-year-old boy remains in critical condition in intensive care. The 9-year-old boy remains in satisfactory condition, the hospital said.

UPDATE, 9:02 p.m. | The 10-year-old boy has burns on 80 percent of his body, and the 9-year-old boy has burns on 8 percent of his body, according to a release from the Enumclaw Fire Department. The release says that the boys were using gasoline for a campfire before the incident occurred.

The boys are best friends, according to the King County Sheriff’s Office. The Sheriff’s Office, Enumclaw Police Department and the King County Medic One organizations assisted with the call.

UPDATE, 8:09 p.m. | The second boy, the 9-year-old, has arrived at Harborview Medical Center, and his injuries are not life-threatening, according to hospital spokeswoman Susan Gregg. 

UPDATE, 7:30 p.m. | The King County Sheriff’s Office reports that one of the boys is 10 years old, and the other 9. The explosion took place outside the house, and there is no damage to the residence, according to the Sheriff’s Office

UPDATE, 6:51 p.m. | The nursing supervisor at Harborview Medical Center reports that only one of the boys has arrived at the hospital. He was airlifted there and is in critical condition.

The second boy is being brought to the hospital by ambulance and has not  yet arrived, she said.

UPDATE, 6:25 p.m. | The explosion was originally reported at 4:30 p.m., according to the King County Sheriff’s Office, which says initial reports are that both boys are 10 years old.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the boys were possibly playing with a gas canister, which exploded.

The King County Sheriff’s Office Arson unit will investigate further to determine the cause of the explosion, the Sheriff’s Office reported.

ORIGINAL POST | Two boys received “significant” injuries in an explosion at a residence in Enumclaw, Friday evening, according to the Enumclaw Firefighters group.

The explosion was reported on Southeast 433rd Street by the Enumclaw Firefighters at about 5 p.m.

One patient was taken via helicopter to Harborview Medical Center, according to a release from the firefighters. The other was taken by a ground unit.

The current conditions of the children, whom the fire department estimates to be 8 to 10 years old, is unknown
