A 46-year-old Darrington man was killed after he collided with a dump truck Thursday morning on Highway 530 near the Oso Landslide Memorial, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The man was driving east  when he crossed the center line and crashed into the dump truck around 9 a.m., according to a State Patrol press memo. The head-on collision temporarily shut down the highway, said Trooper Heather Axtman.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, Axtman said. He was identified Friday by the Snohomish County Medical Examiner as Douglas D. Buchanan.

The dump truck driver, a 60-year-old Stanwood woman, was not injured.

The Oso memorial marks the site where 43 people were killed in a massive landslide on March 22, 2014. A permanent, $6 million memorial is planned for the site.

Highway 530 has been renamed “Oso Slide Memorial Highway.”
