More than 1,300 students will graduate from Seattle Pacific University, including 930 undergraduates, 345 graduate students, and 30 doctoral students and most attend the annual Ivy Cutting ceremony on Tiffany Loop.

This is not the actual graduation, but a symbolic representation of cutting and separation but maintaining still a part of the culture and community.  The string of ivy is the common experience.

The Ivy Cutting ceremony began in 1922 and is part of the body of commencement activities signifying the end of the college years and separation as they enter the world.
