Washington joins the push toward earlier presidential primaries.
The state Legislature has passed a bill to switch Washington’s presidential primary from May to March. The hope is that an earlier primary will give state voters a more prominent voice in the selection of nominees, but many other states are thinking and doing the same thing. The effect may be to simply create a campaign crunch that leaves an even larger time gap between the climax of the primary process and the general election in November.
