President Trump keeps pitching the fantasy that his trade war with China is only proving costly for the Chinese, but American farmers know better. In agricultural areas like Eastern Washington where farmers depend on earning a big share of their income by exporting their crops to Asia, the tariff tit-for-tat is disastrous. The political question is whether rural voters will stay loyal to Trump or turn from him as they feel the effects of his ham-handed trade policies.
