Trump tariffs will harm farmers in Washington counties that voted for Trump.
The Trump administration is slapping steep tariffs on goods from a wide range of countries, from Canada and Mexico to China and Europe. President Trump argues that this will be good for American workers — a dubious theory at best — but the tit-for-tat trade war the tariffs are enflaming will hurt American exporters and consumers. Particularly hard hit will be farmers and ranchers in Washington state whose livelihood depends on selling products to foreign buyers. Ironically, rural voters have been among Trump’s biggest fans.
