State lawmakers voted in a Sunday-night session in April to scrap a 20-year-old ban on affirmative action in colleges, public contracts and employment. Soon after, opponents filed to put the question back to voters.

That question — Referendum 88 — will be on your Nov. 5 ballot.

The Seattle Times editorial board supports affirmative action policies and will make an endorsement recommendation on R-88.
