How and why did high schools became responsible for job training? [“Build manufacturing jobs in high school,” Opinion, Aug. 15]. What happened to apprenticeship programs?
The transfer of job training to the public purse appears to be a profit driven move by savvy business owners. Vocational training (including vocational schools) should be funded by the business owners who benefit from employees who are properly trained with the latest and greatest, up-to-the-minute and specific, manufacturing requirements.
Our public high schools are being asked to do it all. A prescription for failure if there ever was one.
