Re: “Judge rules DOGE’s USAID dismantling likely violates the Constitution” (March 18, Nation & World):

The dismantling of the United States Agency for International Development represents a shortsighted policy that endangers global health and undermines U.S. interests. USAID’s initiatives have been pivotal in addressing pandemics, reducing poverty and promoting democratic governance worldwide. The cessation of its programs has led to immediate and devastating impacts.

Moreover, USAID’s efforts in regions like sub-Saharan Africa have been crucial in combating diseases such as HIV/AIDS and malaria. The abrupt halt in funding threatens to reverse decades of progress, leading to increased mortality rates and global instability.

I call upon our legislators to recognize the indispensable role of USAID and to take immediate action to reinstate its funding. Upholding our commitment to global development and humanitarian aid is not only a moral obligation but also essential for maintaining international stability and safeguarding America’s strategic interests. The USAID creates goodwill so our citizens can travel safely to other countries.
