I am responding to the column by Kathleen Bartholomew on the role of nurses in our health care [“Don’t believe ‘ER’” nurses’ role underestimated, undervalued,” Opinion, April 24].

As a recently retired family physician, with a sister-in-law who is an RN, I agree completely with her assessment of the breadth and depth of the role nurses play.

I must add that the vigilance and expertise of the nurses I have worked with has kept me from making a misjudgment or an error more than once during my career.
