Excellent editorial on how tax breaks for companies are smart [“Tax breaks shown to be smart investments,” Opinion, May 8]. When companies like Boeing and Microsoft choose to locate jobs here versus somewhere else, there is a tremendously positive economic impact.
The jobs not only provide income for tens of thousands of people, they also pay a host of different taxes into state coffers. There is also the multiplier effect as the money is spent and that becomes someone else’s income and taxes to pay.
Without the jobs here, much would be lost. It’s good to see the state of Washington looking at the big picture and sacrificing a few pennies in order to be pound-wise.
