Gov. Bob Ferguson’s disappointing idea that state workers should take one unpaid day off per month for the next two years once again lays the burden of funding essential programs on working people.

Part of Ferguson’s dismaying proposal is to cut funding to food banks (!!) and delay public child care and preschool programs. Instead, tax the bloated rich who reside and profit in Washington state. I have organized with the organization Radical Women, which has run many campaigns to tax the rich and has supported union drives for this obvious but ignored solution.

Writing as a working woman, it is urgent that our representatives consider our needs. After all, we fund the government.
