I read with dismay and frustration the My Take essay by Colleen Ponto regarding development of the Saint Edward Seminary by a private developer wishing to convert the buildings to a hotel and restaurant and bar complex [“Save Saint Edward State Park from hotel developer,” Opinion, Jan. 23].

Having passed on this opportunity a few years ago by McMenamins, which subsequently built a wonderful complex in Bothell, I cannot believe we will consider letting perhaps our last opportunity to preserve these beautiful buildings pass us by.

As a local resident who uses the many trails of Saint Edwards on a regular basis, I would welcome the opportunity to use these facilities once again, particularly the pool that has sat unused for years now. Or, we can watch the chain-link fence go up around the buildings, which would be far less of the beauty that Ponto speaks of.
