There was no reason for Ryan Lochte’s little incident to have ever gone public [“Ryan Lochte says ‘immature behavior’ got him into a mess,” seattletimes.com, Aug. 20]. No one was hurt. No credentials were lost. And they made it back to the village in one piece. I kept wondering why Lochte would even talk to the media about something like this, let alone make up a story.
Then, I find out the media got hold of this news because his mother contacted them after hearing of his frightening (and, it turns out, false) ordeal.
So, kids, the lesson of this entire debacle is: Never lie to your mother!
