Re: “Religious limits on health care prompt merger oversight call” [Feb. 6, A1]:

I was very pleased to see that this issue is being brought to the attention of the state and the public.

It has concerned me for some time that, even as a Kaiser Permanente member, when we are hospitalized we are sent to hospitals owned by and run by a religious order both in Federal Way and Tacoma. We live in King County, and I do not understand why our choices are limited to nonsecular hospitals.

I believe in Death with Dignity and am concerned that although this is a legal option in the state of Washington, should I wish to use it, that option will not be available to me because secular hospitals are not available.

Thank you for this “head’s up.”
