Re “2 arrested at Starbucks get apology from police” and “A baby makes history; will other Senate traditions fall as easily?”:

The notion that men of color and women — not to mention babies — are people, too, may have been slow to catch on. Even so, one might find a ray of hope that real justice and equality could be on the horizon.

The racial and gender structural inequality built into the fiber of this country may actually be receiving the scrutiny and pressure that’s taken 300-plus years to make real sense for a republic that claims “E pluribus unum.”
