If ever there were a vote against the public interest, it is the vote taken by the City Council regarding the basketball and hockey arena proposal [“Staggering blow to Sodo arena,” Page One, May 3]. I am ashamed of Seattle’s elected leadership for being so petty, so shortsighted and so biased, denying this great city the privilege of hosting major league hockey and basketball.

A lot of young people will be disappointed and angry. They’ve been denied the opportunity to root for their home teams and to learn by example from their local sports heroes.
