I am writing to commend The Seattle Times and especially Lynda Mapes for your ongoing coverage of the Puget Sound environment, especially the status of our native salmon runs. This includes reporting on the many threats to native salmon, especially the outrageous use of public waters and resources to raise the invasive Atlantic species.
I think of our native salmon as the canary in our coal mine. If we cannot preserve the native salmon runs, there is little hope that we will be able to preserve the human population, either.
