Re: “124 WA stores threatened by the Kroger and Albertsons merger” [July 9, Business]:
I’m writing to clarify misconceptions regarding Kroger’s pending merger with Albertsons Companies and the related divestiture plan with C&S Wholesale Grocers.
No stores are being “threatened.” The divestiture plan ensures no stores will close as a result of the merger. All front-line associates will remain employed, all existing collective bargaining agreements will continue and associates will continue to receive industry-leading benefits alongside bargained-for wages. We made clear, consistent commitments to this end, which I urge readers to read about at KrogerAlbertsons.com.
C&S has a strong operational focus, experienced management team and the financial resources to help these stores succeed. We structured the divestiture plan to ensure C&S is positioned to successfully operate divested stores by including a cohesive network of stores, regional headquarters, beloved banners and the infrastructure they need to continue serving local communities for years to come.
At its core, this merger is about delivering better value to our associates, customers and communities. We ask everyone to consider the facts.
