Gov. Jay Inslee, Attorney General Bob Ferguson and King County Executive Dow Constantine have expressed sometimes hysterical dismay over the recent Supreme Court Janus decision. They should be celebrating.
This decision was about respecting an individual worker’s right to choose whether he or she will belong to a union or not. Forced membership and forced fees are no longer allowed.
Unions are not being outlawed, silenced, banned or busted. The only thing they’re restricted from doing is forcing people to pay them who don’t want to be a part of their union. Government unions could retain 100 percent of their membership. All they need to do is demonstrate their value and earn the worker’s trust.
I’d be curious how strongly the aforementioned politicians would be against the workers’ right to choose if these same politicians weren’t also benefiting from campaign contributions from the very government unions that want them to mandate fee-paying and enforce their collections operation.
