Re: “Low pay means some flight attendants face homelessness and hunger” [Sept. 1, Nation & World]:

The article on the beginning flight attendant for Frontier Airlines whose salary is so low she needs to work other jobs and is still unable to afford rent is a glaring example of income inequality.

The CEO of Frontier, Barry Biffle, made $8,582,703 in 2023 in total compensation. While his salary was $677,128 (more than 29 times the flight attendant’s salary of $23,000) the rest of his compensation was from a bonus and stock options. This is not a unique story.

I’d like to ask both presidential candidates who say they are working for the middle class how they plan to address this inequality. When previous presidential candidates tried to suggest solutions, they were promptly labeled “socialist,” thus abruptly stopping all meaningful conversation. We need to have this conversation as a nation.
