Aha, at last we’ve caught a carbon polluter agreeing that global warming is “the greatest challenge of our time.” Yet, Dana Bieber, a spokeswoman for No on 1631 Coalition, sponsored by the Western States Petroleum Association, fighting against Initiative 1631 with $11 million, complains: “I don’t think we should leave it [the greatest challenge] in the hands of 15 unelected people [a board appointed by the governor].” The gall of her!
Who has had the fate of the planet in their oily hands for the last few decades? Those same companies who have long campaigned against the science and assured everyone that greenhouse-gas pollution isn’t a problem. Their track record certainly isn’t one I could trust.
Now the petroleum industry is being challenged right here in Washington. We are no longer going to leave the lives, health and welfare of our citizens and our lands in their hands. See the “investment map” on the Yes on 1631 website for a look at the important projects that could be funded by the carbon fee. Let’s vote to give I-1631 a chance to make a difference.
