No matter what side of the great-wall divide you are on, it’s time to admit that the strategy of holding government paychecks hostage is not working for anyone. If you are not feeling any pain because of the shutdown, it is because of the hundreds of thousands of government workers who are working without pay to keep airports open, guard our coastlines, forecast our weather and respond to emergencies.
They have suffered enough. Please, write to your congressional representatives and tell them that the government shutdown is a greater national emergency than the wall, and ending it should be their highest priority. It’s time for Congress to override a veto if necessary, then debate border security after the government is running again.
