Why all the outrage over the price of EpiPens? [“As EpiPen prices rocket up, lawmakers demand answers,” Page One, Aug. 24]. Mylan CEO Heather Bresch is just doing her job to maximize shareholder wealth. This is the invisible hand of the market allocating resources and generating wealth; this is laissez-faire capitalism in its purest form.
We should be celebrating the fact that Libertarian free market principles dominate the U.S. health-care system. The purpose of that system has nothing to do with taking care of sick people or keeping them healthy. The purpose of that system is to maximize the profits of insurance companies, pharmaceutical companies, and hospitals. Come on people — it’s time to wake up and smell the money.
