It cracks me up that at the end of his online column, cartoonist David Horsey confesses to owning a Tesla.
They are not going to save the planet. While electric vehicles do not run on fossil fuels, the mining required to provide rare earth minerals for batteries is causing serious environmental damage. Then there is the issue of decarbonizing our electric grid so everyone can buy an electric car and drive it with zero emissions. That’s a pipe dream. There is no detailed analysis proving it’s even possible, it’s just accepted as a self-evident truth.
