There is a valid, sensible reason to buy more than usual: For many of us, going to the store is the risk we can’t avoid. We can go less often, but that means we have to buy more each time.
Stores and government officials could designate days and times for people to do their shopping, based on phone number or last name, to spread out visits. This would decrease each person’s visits and allow stores to restock.
