The reporting on the new Highway 520 bridge “New 520 Bridge has traveled long, long road to completion” focuses solely on the negative. This only goes to create and reinforce public cynicism.

The article ignores the many positives in the history of the project. Applaud the hundreds of residents and dozens of organizations who took an active role over years in designing the bridge and advocating for bike paths, noise control and the future possibility for light rail. Kudos to local and state elected officials who were passionate about seeing the project to completion and who worked through differences. Hats off to devoted staff of cities, the state and private businesses that worked with integrity to solve complex problems. And, celebrate that the project has incorporated environmental, wildlife- and fish-protection measures, added land to the Arboretum and has greatly improved safety for drivers.
