This article has it backward. The key part of the carbon-tax proposal isn’t mentioned until the end — revenue from the tax will fund payments to working-class families and, very importantly, to workers in the fossil-fuel industry.

Also backward: The article says that the carbon tax could be viewed as a tax on the middle class, but the tax would be paid only by coal, oil and gas corporations, not by people. President Joe Biden has said that corporations must pay their fair share of income taxes. Coal, oil and gas corporations also must pay their fair share for the carbon pollution they cause.
