I feel that the Seattle City Council was fiscally irresponsible in not setting aside $100 million for bridges and road infrastructure in its $7.1 billion 2022 budget. Instead, Councilmember Andrew Lewis and the rest chose to ask the mayor to sell the amount in bonds and increase the debt.
Mayor Bruce Harrell was right to deny the request.
The council needs to sharpen its pencil and allocate the funding before a catastrophic failure happens at one of our other bridges deemed critical.
