Kudos to The Times for its work getting the story on $305 million in Boeing tax breaks [“Tax breaks saved Boeing $305M,” Page One, April 30]. I hope these tax breaks are eliminated. The story makes me mad — not at Boeing, but at the Legislature for its insistence on the B&O tax.

Most of the public has never filled out a B&O tax form, but you’d be shocked if you saw one. It is rife with extremely narrow categories for credits and exemptions. It’s a tax on gross receipts — not income — and it would be crazy to sell airplanes without some relief from a tax on gross receipts.

The Legislature should eliminate these B&O tax breaks when they eliminate the B&O tax. Phase in a business income tax.
