If Amazon needs to resort to harsh tactics to get productivity from its employees [“Inside Amazon: wrestling big ideas in a bruising workplace,” News, Aug. 16], maybe it should take lessons from the finest management guru and motivator in Seattle: head coach Pete Carroll of the Seahawks.

Ever wonder why the Seahawks always seem so gung-ho, goal-oriented and win so often? That’s right, its called “management,” which Carroll and his staff take to the highest level every day.

It’s easy to tell that Carroll treats every player with great attention and respect. It wouldn’t be a surprise if he even knows the names of many of his players’ children and how they’re doing in school. Could Amazon management make that same claim?
