I take strong issue with the letter asserting “that only women should be involved in making or overturning a law that only applies to women” on several counts.

First and foremost, where people stand on our society’s access to abortion is fundamentally a matter of conscience and morality that needs to be debated by everyone, not just one half of our population.

Secondly, usually a woman’s pregnancy involves a man’s active participation and is his responsibility too. Therefore it should not be exclusively the woman’s decision regarding how to proceed.

Lastly, while some of our laws may by their nature have implications for only select segments of our society, they are a reflection of the consensus of the nation. Maintaining or revoking laws must continue to be decided by the whole.
