On this Fourth of July, Americans are deeply divided about the country's direction

As Americans celebrate another Independence Day, the political cleavage seems more pronounced than at any time in decades. On the right, people want to return to a traditional America without abortion, same sex marriage, multiculturalism or pervasive secularism. On the left, citizens hope to keep moving toward a more ethnically and religiously diverse nation where alternative lifestyles are not merely tolerated, but celebrated. Each side exists in their own media bubble and they live in communities significantly segregated from competing political viewpoints. On this Fourth of July, the fireworks are being set off in two different countries.
