In Washington's 11th Legislative District, voters should return Zack Hudgins to the state House.

State Rep. Zack Hudgins, D-Tukwila, should return to the 1th Legislative District House Position 1 for his seventh term. A former tech-industry manager, Hudgins has a record of bipartisan policy wins, most prominently as prime sponsor in the House of the state’s version of the Dream Act, a law that provides better access to higher education for immigrant students without documents. He is also a strong voice to improve and reform Washington’s creaky IT infrastructure.

His opponent, Republican Erin Aboudara lacks a civic service résumé. She was unable to articulate her plan to comply with the Legislature’s biggest challenge: the state Supreme Court’s education-funding mandate. Hudgins, with 14 years in Olympia, has his own deficits on education policy (including opposing charter schools). But he is a much better bet to find a grand bargain on revenue and reforms needed to lift Washington’s schools.
