Shoreline Community College is the best in Washington when it comes to return on investment for students, according to a national study.

“What’s the Value of an Associate’s Degree? The Return on Investment for Graduates and Taxpayers” looked at 579 U.S. community colleges and compared the costs and benefits of getting a community college education. The study was by the American Institutes for Research.

A Shoreline graduate could earn $456,269 more over their lifetime than if they had stopped at high school, according to the study. Across the U.S., the median gain for those with a two-year degree was $259,000 over their lifetime. A Shoreline degree benefits the student and the community. A Shoreline grad will return $117,164 in taxes above the public cost of their education, the study says.

“At Shoreline, we work hard to make sure our degrees and certificates are relevant to our students’ goals, whether those goals are immediate employment or moving on to a four-year university,” Shoreline Community College President Cheryl Roberts says.
