Bold red lips are an iconic look, and are perfect for holiday-party season.

Makeup artist Haley Hansen, based in St. Louis, says getting the right red is all about determining your skin tone, whether warm, cool or neutral.

If gold jewelry looks better on you, and the veins on your wrist look more green than blue, you have warm undertones and you should look for a red with an orange or yellow tone.

If silver jewelry looks better on you, and the veins on your wrist look more blue than green, your skin has cooler undertones. A berry or pinkish red, or one with blue undertones, will look best.

Neutral skin tones can carry both cool and warm reds.

Here are some picks for red lipsticks based on which skin tones they suit.
