Clothes you can wear hot off of Fashion Week runways, and trends you'll see in spring of next year.
New York Fashion Week is over, and there’s good news. You can buy stuff, right now, hot off the runway.
In seasons past, shoppers had to wait a full six months to get the latest looks, but in a burgeoning see now/buy now movement, several designers showed fall merchandise that went straight from runway to stores and online.
Of course, most of designers who showed in New York had lineups exclusively comprised of clothing for spring/summer ’17. So here are 10 things to buy — five now and five trends to look for later.
Tommy Hilfiger live-streamed his carnival-themed show, and by now some of the most popular styles from his Tommy X Gigi line, a collab with model Gigi Hadid, are long gone. But last we looked, you can still snag the long, military-esqe Wool Slim Peacoat ($495 at tommy.com).
Ralph Lauren took over Madison Avenue to present his collection, a full lineup of fall clothes for sale right this minute. In our dreams (and if we had the dough), we’d choose the Beaded Sweater Gown ($3,990 at ralphlauren.com).
There are several pieces straight off Michael Kors’ runway that are available right now online — mostly accessories like bags and the platform Marilyn Color-Block Leather Wedge ($695 at michaelkors.com).
Banana Republic’s newly appointed style ambassador Olivia Palermo curated a limited collection of buy-now styles available right after the brand’s Sept. 10 runway show. In one of our favorites she’s wearing a One-Shoulder Asymmetrical Dress ($148 at bananarepublic.com), which she paired with slim trousers.
Flats! Yay! Low-heeled or flat shoes ruled runways all over.
Flowers were popping up everywhere in spring lines, and the gardens at Tory Burch were bountiful.
A juicy orange shade was one of the season’s top colors; Burch had plenty of it, and so did many other designers.
It was pearls for the girls all over, and not your grandma’s ladylike strands. Vera Wang did it most graphically with looks coated in gumball-sized pearls.
One of the season’s biggest looks was small — bra and bralette tops that showed a sliver or a lot of tummy. Victoria Beckham did a structured variation that was very fresh and youthful, but yeesh, we thought crop tops were hard to wear.
