Many parents don’t know much about independent schools, and even if they’ve heard the term before, they might not know how to begin to check them out. If you weren’t an independent school student in your youth, it might seem like a mysterious club that’s tough to approach, let alone join. Are independent schools the same as private schools? Do you have to be religious to go there?

The fact is that independent schools are just what the name implies: They are schools without a district to oversee their budget and operations. They are nonprofit entities, governed by a Board of Trustees, and accredited through a rigorous process through the Northwest Association of Independent Schools (NWAIS) to ensure they meet a set of high standards for the curriculum, program and operations.

Independent Schools would like to get to know your family. The Puget Sound Independent Schools Admissions Collaborative hosts school fairs throughout the region so you can get information about a lot of the schools under one roof in one evening. We look forward to meeting you!
