Lonely Planet’s new “Blow Your Mind” series is clearly aimed at people who don’t use travel guides. Not that that’s a bad thing.

The three books: “50 Beaches to Blow Your Mind,” “50 Museums to Blow Your Mind” and “50 Bars to Blow Your Mind” are compact and fun to have on the shelf for travel inspiration.

Each right-hand page is a full photograph, with a short block of info in Q&A format on the facing page. It’s up to you to dig deeper. Which you will online. Not in a travel guide.

The photos are gorgeous and the writing is chatty and fun. Pick up the set for a friend’s birthday or for your own coffee-table inspiration.

So, are there any nearby beaches, museums or bars that will blow your mind? Tierra del Mar in Oregon, the Exploratorium in San Francisco and Linda’s Tavern right here in Seattle, are the closest respectively.
