Famous for its white-sand beaches, turquoise waters and rejuvenating resorts, Maui, draws Seattleites like, well, Seattleites to coffee.

But there’s also a burgeoning boutique scene, with chic storefronts from the breezy windward side to the grand Shops at Wailea.

So take a break from the beach and explore a few shops; after all, even the most dedicated sun worshippers need a LITTLE time in the shade. And you’ll end up with some unique, wearable souvenirs to bring back home.

Puka Puka

Located in a restored 1919 plantation-style building in Paia, Puka Puka houses an artfully curated mix of women’s and men’s beachwear, as well as limited-edition prints, books and unique objects. It’s stocked with Instagram-worthy and hard-to-find labels, including sandals handmade in St. Tropez, KORE swimwear, and men’s classic beachwear from Mollusk and MNii.

Take a trip to Letarte to score Maui-made swimwear that’s graced the pages of magazines including Elle, InStyle and Marie Claire. Nestled in a little white house on Baldwin Street, the flagship shop sells everything from bikinis to rashguards to elegant resort wear. A favorite for locals and tourists alike, Mahina is the fashion destination for those looking to stock up on stylish boho basics that won’t break the bank. The boutique carries a frequently rotating mix of fun day-to-night dresses, colorful intimates and fashion jewelry. The trendy Maui-based boutique now has nine Hawaii locations, with four shops on Maui, including one at the lovely open-air Shops at Wailea.
