The general manager for Ivar's at Safeco Field and CenturyLink Field starting working for the company when she was 16.
What do you do? I am the general manager for Ivar’s Sports and Entertainment Division at Safeco Field and CenturyLink Field. I’m responsible for the successful operations of our concepts and concession stands at these specific stadiums. Concepts include Ivar’s, Kidd Valley, Grounders World Famous Garlic Fries and Big Foot Hot Dog/12th Clam. My duties … include managing orders and product placement, hiring, placing and training all stand managers and managing relationships with food/beverage companies.
How did you get your start? I started working for Ivar’s when I was 16 years old. It was actually my first job. I worked as a crew member, primarily cleaning condiment bars, flipping garlic fries and cashiering — among other tasks — for the first few years while I attended school. I was an assistant manager for a brief period of time, and from there I worked my way up to stand manager. Once I graduated from college, I was offered the general manager position.
What’s a typical day like? I don’t have a typical workday, which is definitely a perk. One day I’ll be running around Safeco Field making sure the Mariners’ fans are happily consuming our Grounders World Famous Garlic Fries, the next day I will be serving our Ivar’s fish n’ chips to Seahawks fans at CenturyLink. I have different challenges and experiences on a day-to-day basis, which keeps my job very interesting. During our peak season, I oversee upwards of 250 employees, as well as approximately 100 volunteers who can earn funds for their nonprofit organizations.
What’s the best part of your job? Developing management personnel is a part of my job that I really enjoy. Watching my management team grow and succeed is a genuinely fantastic feeling. This job requires putting in a ton of hours, and these guys make it very enjoyable! Although bumping into famous sports players such as Felix Hernandez, Richard Sherman and Clint Dempsey runs a close second.
